Penelope Cruz: Photo call for “Broken Embraces”


On Friday (March 13), Actress Penelope Cruz, Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, and actress Blanca Portillo, pose during a photocall for their new movie “Broken Embraces” in Madrid.

The “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” beauty playfully posed with director Pedro Almodovar as well as members of the cast, sporting a sexy red hot dress.

Broken Embraces is a 2009 Spanish film by Pedro Almodóvar set in the 1990s and present day. The film centers on a four-way tale of dangerous love, and was shot in the style of a hard-boiled 1950s American film noir. Release in Spanish theaters on March 18th.

Director Pedro Almodovar talks about the thriller/drama, saying:

“Before beginning the tests for my film I had already decided to avoid the disheveled styles, inspired by Sophia Loren, which suit Penelope so well. After seeing the photo from Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I was even more convinced about my decision.”

“I want to try not to repeat hairstyles that Penelope has worn in other films. I really enjoy reinventing her, discovering the number of characters that reside within our beautiful and versatile leading lady.”

Penelope Cruz: Best Supporting Actress


On Saturday evening (February 21), Penelope Cruz arrives at Film Independent’s 2009 Spirit Awards held at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California. The “Vanilla Sky” sweetie was one of the early winner’s and took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a 2008 Golden Globe Award-winning film written and directed by Woody Allen. The plot centers around two American women, Vicky and Cristina, spending a summer in Barcelona, where they meet an artist who is attracted to both of them while still enamored of his mentally and emotionally unstable ex-wife María Elena.

Meanwhile, Penelope talk about of her Oscar bid, as she’s the favorite to take home the same award, Miss Cruz said:

“I don’t want to sound like a typical actress, but I really mean it. I am so grateful for the opportunity of being here for the nomination. I am so happy to be part of a group of people that can work and make a living out of this profession that I have loved so much since I was a little girl,”

“I really don’t want to obsess about winning. I want to enjoy every part of this great adventure. Of course, it would make happy any of us to win. I’d be lying. Once you’ve been nominated, of course it would be so exciting. I never dared to dream about something like this in the place where I grew up.”
