On Thursday evening (September 3), Family and friends gathered for the burial of Michael Jackson at the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Glendale Cemetery in Glendale, California.

Over two months after his death, the King of Pop was finally laid to rest during a 7PM PST private service - which was attended by the Jackson family, as well as Elizabeth Taylor, Macaulay Culkin, Barry Bonds, and other friends wishing to say their goodbyes.

Meanwhile, according to recent reports, Michael Jackson’s estate may end up paying the bill.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff authorized the current administrators of Jackson’s estate to pay for Jackson’s funeral and interment.

An attorney for the singer’s estate, Jeryll Cohen, said the costs will be paidand that the debt-ridden estate has enough cash to pay for the funeral.

Adding, “The expenses are extraordinary, however, Michael Jackson was extraordinary,” Cohen said.

While there was some doubt over previous reports, it has been confirmed that Michael Jackson’s burial will be taking place on August 29th - on what would be the late singer’s 51st birthday.

A spokesman for the Jackson family told press that the King of Pop will be laid to rest at the Holly Terrace in the Great Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 10AM.

According to Globalnation Inquirer:

Joe Jackson, 80, said the birthday burial at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Cemetery would be a private event, although he could not say which family members would be present.

The singing star’s interment is to be held more than two months after his June 25 death from heart failure.

Authorities are investigating whether prescription drugs played a role in death the death of Jackson, 50, and have focused on the role played by his personal physician Conrad Murray.

Murray was present at the time Jackson died and reportedly has admitted prescribing powerful anesthetics to his world-famous client.

Joe Jackson, who spoke to AFP in Las Vegas, said he plans to return to the city immediately after the burial service to attend a charity fundraiser in the famed Palms Casino Resort.

The event, “Las Vegas Celebrates The Music of Michael Jackson,” is to showcase Las Vegas Strip entertainers singing hits made famous by the pop icon.

Later that day, the Jackson family patriarch is to receive a celebrity star in his late son’s honor from the Brenden Theatres, a cinema at the Palms frequented by Jackson and his children.

The theater also has planned a charity screening of the 1988 film “Moonwalker,” a feature film of Jackson concert footage and music video clips, with proceeds going to public school music education programs in Las Vegas.

And as for Michael’s mother Katherine, Joe says she has taken the death very hard with frequent bursting into tears.

While Michael Jackson’s mom, Katherine Jackson, was named guardian of the three children of the late singer in his will, it’s Michael’s sister Janet Jackson who has emerged in the eyes of many as their favored caregiver.

In a surprising logical twist, Janet Jackson is emerging as the potential custodian of Michael’s children Paris, Prince Michael and Blanket, according to OK! Magazine:

“All three want Janet to read to them at night,” a Jackson family friend says. “They just melt into her arms when she walks into the house.”

The feeling is mutual, adds the insider.

“Janet has completely bonded with those children in the last two weeks,” the friend continues. “She has been their rock. It’s clear to everyone that they are looking to her for comfort and guidance.”

One concern raised is that at 79, caring for three kids might be too much for Katherine, a problem eased by Janet’s presence.

“Janet is not only willing to raise those children, she is also the only relative who knows how to protect them,” the insider tells OK!. “Janet knows the value of a private life and knows how to keep her personal life out of the news. She is determined to do that for Michael’s children. She is saying that he would want no less for them, pointing out how far he went to shelter them.”

So much so, the magazine reports, that adorable Prince and Paris Jackson, 12 and 11, plus little Blanket, 7, want Janet Jackson to raise them.

On Tuesday (July 7), the ladies from “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Kourtney Kardashian along with their mother Kris Jenner were spotted arriving at the Staples Center, all donning black ensembles in honor of r the late Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson’s memorial service will apparently cost Los Angeles taxpayers $3.5 million+ in a time. Local law enforcement will be providing security for attendees which include private guests of the Jacksons.

Eonline reports:

“We have city employees getting pink slips because the city dollars are not there,” points out L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine. But even though city officials have asked AEG to pick up some of the public costs, the company has declined, Zine tells me. AEG did not respond to my requests for comment.

“You would think AEG would say, ‘We’re the ones who did this, we could have had a private ceremony and not a major public memorial.’ AEG is a big entertainment company. They’re going to get international coverage and tons of publicity from this.”

And just what kind of city effort are we talking here?
* At least 1,400 police officers to keep the peace
* Workers from the Department of Transportation to arrange and enforce street closures
* Still more workers from the Department of Public Works to keep the area clean and operating
* Fire and rescue specialists, just in case too many rabid fans moonwalk into one another out in the streets

On Tuesday (July 7), musicians including John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Usher and Mariah Carey all take the stage in honoring Michael Jackson’s life during a tribute in Los Angeles.

The most heart wrenching moment came as Michael’s daughter, Paris, spoke to the Staples Center crowd, joined by siblings Prince Michael and Prince Michael II, Jackson’s daughter gave an impromptu speech following a group rendition of “Heal the World.”

She told the crowd:

“I just want to say ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine. And I just want to say I love him so much.”
