Katie Holmes Makes a Difficult Decision

It appears that Katie Holmes has faced one of the trickiest scheduling conflicts in her career. On Jan. 11, 2009, All My Sons, the Broadway play she is starring in, is slated to have its very final performance. At the same time, however, her husband Tom Cruise is also slated to attend the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, wherein he is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his quick but hilarious turn in the comedy Tropic Thunder. The choice of whether to stay in the East Coast and end the play’s run with her theater family, or to jet off to the West Coast to support her loving husband, has been dealt her quite bluntly.

Her decision?

Ina Treciokas, Katie’s press representative, announces that the actress will stick to New York. “Katie’s decided to stay and do her last show. She won’t be going with Tom to the Globes. The cast of All My Sons has been like a family and they want to end it together.”

The choice has certainly been a difficult one, nonetheless. Cruise’s stint during the Golden Globes may be his last, big chance at promoting his upcoming Holocaust film Valkyrie. It would make for fantastic press, then, if his lovely wife was right by his side throughout the awards ceremony. Tom Cruise without Katie Holmes on the red carpet is very much like Angelina Jolie without Brad Pitt.

Holmes’ dedication to her theater work has been remarkable. Thus far, she has not missed a single performance, nor has she slacked in any other way despite the fact that she plays the smallest of the play’s four main characters. She has remained a good example during the recent burgeoning of screen actors taking on theater roles, from Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe in Equus, to Denzel Washington in Julius Ceasar, to Julia Roberts and Clueless’s Paul Rudd in Three Days of Rain. Reception for Holmes’s role in All My Sons, however, has been middling or lukewarm.

She is, at least, unlike Entourage star Jeremy Piven, who had to pull out hastily the past week from his role in Speed-the-Plow allegedly due to high levels of mercury in his bloodstream.

TomKat and the Becks Celebrate Thanksgiving in Style

Tomkat and Becks

The friendship between TomKat and the Becks, two A-List Hollywood couples, has made headlines ever since David and Victoria Beckham moved to America. David Beckham, one of the best football players in the world, and Victoria (a former Spice Girl) went to support Katie Holmes in her play, “All My Sons”. They accompanied Katie’s husband Tom Cruise as they all headed to the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater to watch Katie’s performance.

After the play, the two couples were spotted together in New York City once again. They all met up in the TomKat’s place before heading out with their children in tow. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have a daughter named Suri (Tom also has two adoptive children, Connor and Isabella, with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman) whereas David and Victoria Beckham have three sons named Cruz, Romeo and Brooklyn. TomKat, the Becks, and all their children were seen celebrating Thanksgiving dinner together in Il Cantinori Restaurant in Manhattan.

It has also been rumored recently that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been on the look-out for movies where they can both act together. A source revealed that, “They’re looking at remaking Last Tango In Paris, but anything sexy with a good story appeals. Tom’s looking for something that’s cutting edge and sexy, but also accessible.” He added that “He’s thinking along the lines of Basic Instinct – a movie that has a mainstream plot, but also some intense sex stuff. He hasn’t found the script yet, but both he and Katie are reading a few that could fit the bill.”

The relationship between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes seems to be going strong, and according to Tom his past erratic behavior may have contributed to it. He said, “There are things that I could have done better. I could have handled things better. I was surprised by the criticism but it brought everyone close together. Katie’s entire family and my family. Going through that stuff is not pleasant, and I think it hit an extreme, but Kate’s a very sure and confident and strong woman. She gets it, you know.”

On Wednesday evening (November 5), Katie Holmes and daughter Suri Cruise spotted out in a rainy night, making a stop at Baby GAP before heading back to the car under the cover of a cute ladybug umbrella in New York City. It’s a mother-daughter bonding.

According to OK Magazine reports:

“Tom Cruise’s adopted son with Nicole Kidman, Connor, wants a brother - and since Nicole may not have any more children, it could be up to Katie to give Connor the baby brother he wants.”

Of the situation, Kidman passed on the duties, telling press: “[He] would like one of us to have a boy. He wants that boy. Katie?”

“Katie and Tom very much want another baby. There may be no better time than now for Katie to get pregnant again and absolutely nothing would make Tom happier.”
